Clinical Tracks

Chemical Dependency has long been identified as one of the most destructive conditions humans face. Not only does reliance on drugs and alcohol result in physical dependence and deterioration, but ultimately, takes its toll in all other areas of a person’s life. At MALIBU RECOVERY we assist you in treating the physical consequences of your disease; address the destructiveness to family and friends; identify your inner struggles and distorted beliefs; and provide you with grounding in the spiritual components crucial for recovery.

The Chronic Pain Track is a unique program that can help you understand your physical pain and start you in the direction of healing. We understand that your pain is real and life altering. Our program can help you regain control of your life and understand the origin of your pain in a more holistic way. Mind-body feedback systems create the neural connections needed for establishing conscious control of pain, stress and negative emotions.

It has become obvious that chemical dependency does not always occur alone, and can manifest in tandem with psychiatric conditions. MALIBU RECOVERY’s staff is trained in addressing co-occurring disorders and the unique struggles and challenges that one faces in dealing with them. Special attention and activities are offered for individuals with these needs.

In a culture driven by a desire for power, control and wealth it is common to find professionals in high stress positions on the verge of collapse/burnout. To admit that one is having difficulties and ask for help is often difficult. MALIBU RECOVERY has a specialized track and a successful history of treating professionals in crisis. We can provide flexibility that other programs are not able to and we have a commitment to confidentiality and privacy.

Those involved in the creative arts often have some very unique challenges in building a life of sobriety. There is also a great concern that the absence of drugs/alcohol will diminish creative expression. MALIBU RECOVERY has a special track designed to address these concerns and facilitates the integration of creative expression with the treatment goals of the program.

Co-Dependency is a term that has been greatly overused, but which indicates a common, life destroying orientation: using others, to establish one’s identity, purpose and sense of well being. It is an orientation founded in fear and is dependent on others and their behaviors. This manifests as a destructive pattern of excessive concern, control, manipulation and obsession with others to the detriment of oneself. This is a common occurence when one is in a relationship with an addict or comes from a chronically dysfunctional family system. MALIBU RECOVERY has a special track designed to help liberate individuals from the destructive aspects of co-dependency.

The transition from completing residential treatment to returning to your home can be challenging. At MALIBU RECOVERY our commitment is to assist you in developing a support system of people and professionals in your community to help further your recovery goals. During your stay, you will identify tools to help you maintain sobriety and minimize relapse but you will also have access to the complete continuum of treatment options offered by Renaissance. Each of our programs utilize the same integrative, holistic approach to treatment that has made MALIBU RECOVERY stand out from the competition.

Our family is our first social environment and where we are taught who we are and how we should be. Despite good intentions, we all carry our family’s legacy of distorted beliefs and patterns which contribute to the pain we experience in life. MALIBU RECOVERY sees this as a crucial area to address, not only for you, but for the loved ones that share your life. To this end we offer a Family Therapy program including our Family of Origin experiential weekend.

Many of us carry a legacy born of trauma. For some, trauma may have occurred early in life, even before we had language skills to express or even conceptualize what had happened. For others, it may occur later leaving a painful legacy of loss, fear, and betrayal. These “trauma wounds” may be the most painful and difficult areas to access. At MALIBU RECOVERY we consider addressing past trauma a critical component to healing. We utilize cutting-edge technologies, including EMDR, to uncover and heal the wounds which have prevented you from establishing a joyous, abundant and fulfilling life.

Depression and anxiety are the most common mental health challenges facing individuals in our society and when you are also struggling with addiction the consequences are compounded. The licensed staff at MALIBU RECOVERY, along with our Psychiatrist and Addictionologist, is eminently qualified to provide you with the best treatment available in a healing, serene setting.

Often at the core of our dysfunction is a well of unresolved grief. In a culture that doesn’t understand this natural process our grieving often is stopped prematurely or suppressed and distorted. This may result in frozen emotions, anger, becoming numb to the joys of life and engaging in self destructive behaviors. MALIBU RECOVERY has a specialized track to move you through unresolved grief and prepare you to embrace a new and happier tomorrow.

A unique offering of MALIBU RECOVERY is our Family Outreach Program which is composed of a clinical-administrative team that, with the client’s permission, travels to the client’s hometown to meet with family members and others affected by their addictive behaviors. The team is also available to meet with the referring therapists who will oversee the client’s aftercare. The Family Outreach therapist works with the client’s family members, friends and colleagues to help them better understand the disease of addiction, the course of treatment and how they can support the client’s recovery. The Renaissance clinician also meets with the referring therapist to report on clinical progress and plan for a smooth transition when the client reenters the community and returns to the therapist’s care. An added benefit of the team visit is insight into the client’s home environment that helps Renaissance clinicians tailor treatment to the client’s individual circumstances. Keeping the people within our client’s support system involved in the recovery process produces greater outcomes. Apprising the referring therapist of clinical progress creates a smooth transition for the client when reentering the community and returning to that therapist’s care.

This is a voluntary offering and the client can decide who he/she would like or not like to be involved. There is an additional charge for this service.

Often the most distressing aspect of treatment is the initial detoxification from the substances you have been taking. this is a critical time and success in detox will impact successful integration into treatment. In order to make this process as comfortable as possible, upon arrival at MALIBU RECOVERY our clients meet with a physician, who will take a medical history and give a physical examination. When necessary, a detoxification protocol is begun and carried out under medical supervision. Every effort is taken to make this phase of treatment as comfortable as possible.
